KANAKARIS WINERY
Slopes of Aigialeia
Peloponnese
The Peloponnese is a mountainous region, with Mount Taygetos standing out. Located in southern Greece, it enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate and is the largest wine-growing region in the country, with 32% of Greece's vineyards.
The vineyards of Aigialeia, part of the Achaea wine region in the north-west Peloponnese, are on north-facing slopes, sheltered by the mountains to the south and cooled by breezes from the Gulf of Corinth. The Protected Geographical Indication "Aigialeia Slopes" offers a temperate climate, ideal for gentle ripening of the grapes.
The history of Kanakaris Winery began in 1979, when Michalis Kanakaris began producing wines in Aegialia. In 1995, his son Giorgos expanded production with new varieties such as Merlot and Agiorgitiko. In 2009, brothers Michalis and Stefanos took over the winery, modernizing methods and infrastructure. Today, they export wines to countries such as the USA and Germany, keeping the family tradition alive and expressing the terroir of Aigialeia.
